Google is Not the Internet, Have you Looked at Bing
Everyone has seen the screen; the Google search bar has been the home page for many for a good, long time. You know the drill: Get up, get the cup of coffee, get ready for work, boot that computer and, ‘BAM!’ Google and it’s little logos or images dedicated to the special day, appears on the screen. However, more and more people are learning that although Google is the market leader, it is definitely not the sole choice when it comes to searching the internet – Bing has seen its credibility soar.
Is Google a dinosaur? No. Updates and refreshing facials have been happening to every search engine and platform, even Google. What must be said, however, is that when it comes to search engines there are a huge variety of them that are impressing people on a daily basis. Bing, Yahoo and more, are establishing themselves as not just ‘mirrors of Google’ but surpassing Google in the services they offer. Yes, of course, there are many similarities and always will be with how search engines run, but each and every one of them is looking to add avenues that will optimize a person’s website, rankings, and provide optimal performance for the consumer when they are calling up a subject. The user wants fast results, and Bing is working tediously to give them exactly what they want with their search instead of a list of hopefuls that the consumer must comb through to find what they were really looking for. These search engines are also on the hunt for quality content – looking for new ideas that come from credible websites and authorities based in every industry in order to increase their numbers.
When looking at the differences between Bing and Google, a great many people discuss the ‘weight’ that every search engine gives to the literally hundreds of signals found on web pages. This process causes many websites to end up highly ranked on Google, yet not even shown on Bing.
Google is completely serious when it comes to credibility. They do not want links that destroy the quality of a site linking to your website. Bing, in the past, has not done as good a job at filtering out link spam – but they have grown wiser.
A website’s canonical URL is the most important page on a company’s website, and Google’s Webmaster Tools have given the benefit of allowing website owners to manage this without having to change any code. In addition, Google supports the use of the canonical tag so that website owners do not have to deal with duplicate content.
What people need to take into consideration is the fact that Bing has grown over a small number of years. Although missing things in the beginning, the reconstruction and better design has brought improvement. The search engine focuses on both global content and FTP servers, and the long list of ‘Hits’ keep on coming when a person searches for a specific need. Up-to-date searches that include the latest in webpages, articles, videos, etc., are provided.
Bing has a well-known background to say the least, considering it came from the minds of Microsoft; which means once the actual technology was in place, the popularity of Bing was bound to skyrocket. And even though it was a slow start, the stats for 2009-2010 had Bing increasing its searches and beating out Yahoo.
The variety is there, making Bing cooler than Google in many minds. The background changes daily, offering images that seem to spark the users mind, whereas Google remains that standard white.
Bing also offers a more overall view, with the left side of the page offering results and prior searches, and the right side giving a more extensive layout to the user. Sub links come with almost every search result, and the accelerators (maps, shopping, etc.), are widely preferred. But what most praise about Bing is how it almost works like your classroom professor (just not in a boring way). Bing supports the user’s research with suggestions appearing on screen as well as extra search options that might be of use. In other words, they try their best to get you where you absolutely want to go.
What keeps the viewers heading back to Google is that it’s still the largest single catalog of webpages available, and they are consistently adding and updating all the time.
But in the end, diversity is fun! Even if you still favor the ‘King’…I suggest you check out Bing!
